The Last Nomads, a book of profile articles produced by journalists at the Mongolian news outlet Ergelt.mn, was launched in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
The launch ceremony was attended by Tsengeg Mijiddorj, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Austria; Birol Kilic, /Бирол Келич/ Honorary Member of the Foreign Press Association in Vienna; Gerlee Tserendorj, Mongolia’s Cultural Envoy abroad; E. Khurelbaatar, Editor-in-Chief of Ergelt.mn; B. Enkhmart, Executive Editor of Ergelt.mn; the book’s authors; as well as Austrian citizens, researchers, academics and artists.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the publication and discussed plans to publish The Last Nomads in German to make it accessible to readers, scholars and researchers in Austria and other countries.
During the event, Ambassador M. Tsengeg said:
“I thank the team behind The Last Nomads for coming to Austria. We will fully support the effort to publish this book in German and introduce it to Austrian readers. I am aware that Ergelt.mn specializes in investigative journalism, and now they are also contributing to promoting Mongolian culture to the world by bringing their work to European countries. We greatly appreciate and welcome this effort.”
Birol Kilic, Honorary Member of the Foreign Press Association in Vienna, said:
“Many Mongolian writers have come to Austria to present their books, but this is the first time that journalists have introduced a journalistic work in this way. It is an excellent achievement, and I congratulate the team. Through The Last Nomads, English-speaking audiences around the world can now read about Mongolia’s culture and the everyday lives of its nomadic people.”
The Last Nomads contains 32 profile articles portraying the unusual and compelling daily lives of ordinary Mongolians. The subjects of the profiles were located and documented over a three-year period by Ergelt.mn’s journalists.
